Taking photos of gemstones and jewelry is great fun. I start off with examining the piece for any blemishes or inclusion that I wanted or did not want to include in the final photo.
I then think of a name of the piece.
The black Diamond Ring is named Precious.
The black diamond is hard to justify with a photo. A diamond is very shiny, light dashes out of it like a radiant star. However, a black diamond does not do that. It can be often mistaken for a Oynx. To the naked eye (at least my eye), it is hard to tell that it is a diamond in the shade of black.
I decided to use a white background to enhance the black diamond’s beauty. I named it precious, to be precious like a baby wrapped in linen cloth.
I didn’t want the photo to be dreamy but rather a sense of calm.
An orange diamond following it was easier to shoot. I named it Sunset as that was the first thing that came to my mind when I picked it up. The gold ring was the sky during a sunset and the orange diamond was the setting sun. I decided on sunset and not sunrise because the piece was more mellow and not loud. A sunrise, I felt is bright, loud, cheerful. A sunset is more relaxing, end of the day, resting and healing for a brighter tomorrow.
Overall I enjoyed very much in taking these photo. They were shot on different days throughout a month. These photos take time but I did enjoy every moment of it.
